Process workflow charts guides new employees and allows team members to identify specific inputs, processes, and outputs for improvement. Utilizing “swim lanes” to separate phases, teams, or individuals provides a clear visualization of responsibility. Many times there are processes within processes; diving into these sub-processes allows organizations to fine-tune business procedures.

Value stream mapping (VSM)

Value stream maps are effective for repetitive processes and help quantify value versus waste in a process. VSM’s can be implememented in product or service industries. It is utilized to map the flow of information as well as products or services. Each product or service will have it’s own value stream map, generally focusing on the areas are the biggest concern or the highest revenue for the business.
